Have you ever wondered why red, yellow and orange are the most visible colors during festivals? Or why some people tend not to wear black on auspicious occasions? Well, colors play a vital role in our day-to-day life.

Do you feel anxious in a yellow room? Does the color blue make you feel calm and relaxed? Artists, interior designers, and psychologists have long understood how colors can dramatically affect moods, feelings and emotions. Colors are a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood and cause physiological reactions.

There are certain ideas for choosing the right color scheme for good health and positive  thinking, which may be considered while going in for wall paintings and changing curtains in your homes or work places. The color and texture of walls and curtains in our homes have an effect on our behaviors.

Cotton-based curtains have a positive effect; the air passing through these curtains have a peaceful effect on a person’s mind. Curtains made of synthetic and woolen material stop negative air from entering the house. Dark colored curtains protect us in summers, whereas the light colored ones let the sunrays to enter the house.

Colors in the red area of the color spectrum are known as warm colors, and they include red, orange and yellow. These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility. They also help in preventing people from going into depression.

Yellow color is advantageous in keeping the mind healthy. If there is an infant in the house, try to avoid multicolored curtains or walls. It’s also a good option to keep changing your curtains in a small gap of time.

HOW DIFFERENT COLORS AFFECT OUR MOODS

  • RED

Brings warmth, energy and stimulation, and is therefore good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. Red energizes the heart and blood circulation. It builds up the blood and heightens a low blood pressure. Energizes all organs and the senses of hearing, smell, taste, vision and touch. It is known to increase sexual desire and activity, and stimulates ovulation and menstruation. Avoid using red color for treatment of cancer, as it is known to stimulate cell growth.

  • ORANGE

Orange is warm, cheerful, non-constricting. Orange has a freeing action upon the body and mind, relieving repressions. Orange shows new possibilities and other options in life. It stimulates creative thinking and enthusiasm, and helps assimilate new ideas. The color also stimulates the lungs, respiration and digestion. It increases the activity of the thyroid, relieves muscle cramps and spasms.

  • YELLOW

Yellow helps strengthen the nerves and the mind. It helps awaken mental inspiration and stimulates higher mentality. Hence it’s an excellent color for nervous or nerve-related conditions or ailments. The color also energizes the muscles. Yellow can be used for conditions of the stomach, liver and intestines. It speeds up digestion and assimilation.

  • GREEN

Green is the color of nature and the earth. It is balance and harmony in essence, and possesses a soothing influence upon both the mind and the body. It is neither relaxing nor astringent in its impact. Green can be used for just about any condition in need of healing. Green rings psychological and emotional harmony and balance.

  • VIOLET / PURPLE

These are colors of transformation. They are known to heal melancholy, hysteria, delusions, alcohol addiction, and bring spiritual insights and renewal. These colors slow down an overactive heart, and stimulate the spleen and the white blood cells (immunity). They bring sleep, soothe mental and emotional stress, decrease sexual activity. They also decrease sensitivity to pain and help in detoxification.

  • WHITE

White is the perfect color, for it is nothing but all the colors in perfect balance and harmony. White color raises the vibration of one’s consciousness and body, bringing harmony in all aspects of life. Directing white color to the part of the body that needs healing is one of the fastest ways to bring about the healing process.

  • PINK

Pink is the color of universal love and is very suitable for a good night’s sleep. It is a quiet color. Pink provides feelings of care, tenderness, self-worth, love and acceptance. A light shade of pink in your bedroom can give you a soothing and loving effect as you get ready for a good night’s sleep.

  • TURQUOISE

Increases intuition and sensitivity. Works like a disinfectant and antiseptic. Tones the general system, builds the skin, relaxations sensations of stress.
